EGKA Grading Syllabus Library

This online Goju Ryu karate learning library was founded by Sensei Ernie and Sensei Roy Flatt in 2010. The library has grown to now include over 680 short-form videos that seek to explain many technical aspects of the katas, bunkai and kakie applications students will be taught in EGKA dojos. Although there will be regional variations, the library also has relevance to IOGKF-affiliated dojos around the world.

The library is not intended to replace face-to-face training in the dojo under the supervision of a qualified instructor. What it does provide are comprehensive explanations and demonstrations of the entire EGKA grading syllabus from beginner's basics to 6th Dan kata, bunkai and kakie applications.

The library is operated by an independent UK company (Goju Ryu Academy Ltd), in which Sensei Ernie holds an interest. Sensei Ernie leaves it to each of his students to decide whether they should subscribe to the service. He believes the library will help his students more easily learn the technical skills they will need to improve their karate and progress through their grades. He accepts some students find didactic learning by watching video demonstrations of what they should be doing is not for them.

The choice of subscribing is therefore down to the individual to make. To help you reach the right decision, new subscribers are given 72-hours (3-days) of free access to the library content for their selected subscription level. During this time you can watch as many repeat or new videos as you wish. If you like what you see, then just continue using the library and a payment will be taken from your designated card at the end of the 72-hour trial period. If you decide the library is not for you, then provided you cancel your subscription within the 72-hour trial period, no payment will be taken.

If you view the catalog on the library website, although you cannot open the videos, you can gain a better understanding of how much of the EGKA grading syllabus is covered. It starts with the katas, bunkai and kakie applications you will taught in ascending order of grading. It then introduces various sections on kumite tips, tactics, and drills to practice, before moving onto supplementary training subjects. The final sections on karate basics and dojo etiquette are aimed at beginners starting out on their karate journey.
